Pizza and legends

Legend says that the world most famous pizza, the pizza margherita, was born in 1889, when the chef Raffaele Esposito, to honor the Queen Margherita of Savoy, prepared three kinds of pizzas: pizza Mastuncola with lard, cheese and basil, pizza Marinara with tomato, garlic and oregano, and finally a pizza with tomato and mozzarella, with tomato, olive oil, mozzarella cheese and oregano, whose colors intentionally recalled the Italian tricolor. Queen Margaret was so impressed by the taste of this pizza with tomato and mozzarella that she want to congratulate to him, with a letter. So the chef dedicated to Queen Margherita the pizza so created.

Another legend instead sinks its roots at the time of the Olympian gods. The protagonists of this legend is no lessthan Venus, the goddess of beauty and love, and her husband, the jealous and rude Vulcan, the blacksmith god who tire of working in the Etna, thought it well to move to work in Vesuvius for a short period of time. One day, he thought it well to go home for lunch, but Venus, that in the morning had received a visit from one of her many suitors, had not cooked anything and so she thought it well to take a piece of dough that had kept it for a flat bread, flattening and garnish it with goat milk, herbs and berries, which then she began to cook on a hot rock just out of Vesuvius.

Among famous gourmets, lovers of this noble food, we have to mention the Prince of the Laughter, Antonio De Curtis, known as Toto. Legendary is the phrase "I give you a better pizza ... but do we have the money? " in the movie Miseria e Nobiltà. Toto loved especially the pizza Margherita and thePizza Marinara. So it was not unusual to see him in many pizzerias in Naples in the company of Macario or Nino Taranto, two famous Italian showman.

Going back in times, Garibaldi, the two worlds hero, after the meeting with Vittorio Emmanuele II in Teano, which affirms the unity of Italy, rather than to go to in some rich families as a guest, enjoyed a pizza in an inn. Even Alexander Dumas, a famous French writer, author of The Three Musketeers, in the travel accounts "Corricolo" mentioned the pizza, listing the most common tastes, including the original pizza to "eight", prepared the week before.
